I just read an interesting article in my local newspaper. It was the way in which guesthouses, once again increasing in popularity. I, for one, am not surprised to read this as I prefer to be in a guest house rather than a hotel as explained in the rest of this article.
The newspaper article suggested that the current financial difficulties are one reason why people are increasingly interested in staying in a guesthouse. Fewer people can afford a holiday abroad these days and this trend looks set to continue for many years to come. And even when people are choosing to stay home in the UK are still trying to spend the holidays with a budget and this is where this type of accommodation can be beneficial, since they tend to be very cheap to stay in, on average.
There are cheap hotels but these tend to be very monotonous and sad - and also tend to be located in a rather ugly, and the services of the highway.
I've always been a big fan of the guest house - for me are just more homey and welcoming. The people who work there are much more friendly, in my experience, what would normally be expected in a hotel. This is undoubtedly due to the fact that they are family run businesses and therefore more difficult to try to make her welcome in the hope, of course, return it. People working in a hotel do it for very low wages and therefore have no desire to make your stay enjoyable.
